Aw, man - I recommend against having a dream of your ex- (of 17 years ago) who spends the time in the dream being controlling and critical. Ugh.

Took me by surprise - “Scores of Romanians who are part of the Roma ethnic minority have crossed the U.S.-Mexico border in south Texas in recent weeks to seek asylum, highlighting the far-flung origins of some of the migrants who have contributed to border arrests in recent months reaching a 20-year high.” https://www.reuters.com/world/us/why-roma-migrants-europe-are-taking-rafts-mexico-enter-us-2021-05-26/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletter_axiossneakpeek&stream=top

German Boy, by Wolfgang Samuel - Once again, I feel I've been given a gift by the author of this book. Imagine a boy of 9 in Germany in January, 1945, his father in the German army who-knows-where or dead. He lives with his mother and younger sister. The Russian army is approaching, and the family of three leave during the night to try to get further west. Much of the book is about the next year's journeys to various places, most dangerous, all grim, helped at times, harmed at times, by soldiers. Then there are 3 years living in an abandoned barracks, as refugees in Germany, scrounging for food much of the time. The last year was much improved.
Now I'll tell you that this is not fiction. This is the memoir of that time written at the age of 65 by he who lived it. And it is wonderfully told, almost all as though the author is the boy at those ages. It really is extraordinary.
